Gulf Tensions Rise as UAE Detects Iranian Ballistic Missiles Targeting Maritime Routes
Abu Dhabi saw two ballistic projectiles go up from Iran on Tuesday. These projectiles were headed towards the sea near the area and this was a surprise because things had been quiet in the Gulf for a while.
The people in charge of defense said that they were watching these projectiles come in and they said that both of them went down in the water and did not hurt anyone or damage anything on land.
This made people in the United Arab Emirates really scared for a while. The civil defense people sent out emergency alerts on the phone telling everyone to go find a place right away.
The security people stopped the alert two hours later. They told everyone that they were still watching for any threats. According to the defense people one projectile landed outside of the UAEs water area. The other one went down in a sea lane that’s part of the UAE.
This latest escalation directly imperils critical shipping channels near the Strait of Hormuz, where international oil transportation faces recurring disruptions. Energy infrastructure and commercial vessels operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have encountered increasing maritime hazards in recent weeks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei swiftly dismissed Abu Dhabi’s claims as unfounded, asserting that Tehran had launched no such projectiles and cautioning against allegations that undermine fragile diplomatic trust in the region.
The defensive detection represents the first high-alert missile warning issued by Emirati forces in several months following a period of relative calm established by a June diplomatic understanding. UAE authorities originally absorbed heavy aerial barrages when wider regional hostilities erupted earlier this year, enduring thousands of incoming drone and missile incursions.
While the initial security arrangement temporarily suppressed direct clashes, recent maritime incidents signal a precarious collapse of de-escalation framework agreements.
In response to the missile detection, UAE defense leadership reiterated its complete operational readiness to intercept aerial threats and defend national sovereignty. Citizens and commercial operators have been advised to rely strictly on verified government updates as military forces maintain heightened vigilance over vulnerable maritime choke points.
